Family Camping Survival Tips

If you plan your camping trip ahead of time, you can save yourself and your family a lot of stress. By making sure that all members of the family have enough to do, and they will be more able to enjoy themselves during the whole trip.

For children less than three years old, going on a camping trip, is difficult at best. Hiking or canoeing are just a few of the camping activities that very young children can not partake in. That being the case, at least one of the adults will have to remain behind, and miss out on the fun activities.

One question you will want to ask yourself is, if your children are old enough to enjoy the camping trip.

Find out if the campground offers activities for children, or if there is a nearby facility that does.

You may want to make a reservation for some activities and equipment in advance such as boats, horseback riding, fishing licenses or other activities. These may have a limit on time you can use them, or number of items available.

This will give you the helpful information that you need, so you can plan out your day, along with saving you time in the process.

Small towns close to the campground, may have several fun, family activities that you can enjoy. The chamber of commerce is a good place to ask about this, as well as the local library and park district.

Your family may find the small town nearby has a rich history that your family might have fun discovering. A guided tour for families might be available, or an interesting museum could show you and your family some fascinating history.

Children can enjoy reading a book, watching a DVD or listening to music as you are traveling.

By packing these items, you will help to prevent a lot of fights or other incidents from happening while you are driving down the road.

Another good idea, is to take bathroom breaks often. Let the children be able to get up and walk around a bit, stretching their legs, and give everyone a chance to refresh themselves. Do not forget that adults need to take a break every once in a while too.

Be sure to include fun activities for the adults in your camping party as well. They will be looking forward to enjoying the camping trip in their own way, just as much as the children!
