Dont Overlook Directories!

What is the best way to increase links?? Hmmmm.....well one way is to exchange links. Well this way is only useful if you exchange links the old fashion way with email between webmasters. Yes, there are quite a few exchange programs out there, but they are becoming obsolete in the search engine optimization world. Google has taken a stand against automated link exchange programs and the sites that are on them. So dont get your self caught and have your site stripped from Google, stay away from these programs.

Many webmasters now believe that directory submissions are useless as well. Hmmmm....I dont think so!! Yes, you probably will not get much traffic from the directory, but that is not really the point of them anymore. They are used as link builders. You can get your site on a directory pretty easily, except for DMOZ, which is a pain and a long process. If you are submitting your site to directories for the purpose of traffic, you better stop kidding yourself because no traffic is coming from there. What the purpose of submitting to directories is for building links to your site. Not only that, but getting links that already have page rank associated with them. This in turn gives your site more trustability and page rank. It only helps you out. But you do have to watch out for these directories that do not allow search engines to follow the links or they are dynamic pages which search engines dont like. These directories are only wasting your time and dont worry about them.

We all know that there are free and paid directories out there. Now it wont hurt you get get in some of those paid ones, within reason. Most of the paid ones have higher PR because they have quality links in them. Another thing to remember about submissions is that you need to make your link title with targeted keywords. These keywords will help you rank down the road. So you are thinking to yourself right now...why would I take all this time to submit then? Well, let me tell you.....You get these quality, high PR links pointing to your site, it gets indexed quicker. Once indexed, your PR will be on the rise because of the PR from the directories. With higher PR and a quality website, your site will rank in the big search engines for your keywords, which is what every site owner wants!! So, if you think that you shouldnt submit to directories, or someone tells you you shouldnt, you better think again because if you dont, you will be behind the curve and left in the dust by your competitors!!
