Now that one of the most popular free keyword research tools is frozen, alot of affiliate marketers, especially affiliate marketing newbies are in a bit of a panic.

'How will I research keywords for my next website?'

So the question arises. 'How important are keywords?'

The simple answer is keywords are very important but maybe not used as we are popularly taught

We are told by every SEO ebook and training video that we must find good keywords or even great keywords, build a site and optimize it for these keywords and the traffic will come rushing in.

So you, the affiliate marketing newbie, rush out and build you fantastic website and celebrate because you are going to be a millionaire. Yes? No!

You build the website and wait for ages for the 'golden egg' website to be indexed and then a longer period of frantic backlink building only to make it as far as page 2 of google and little or no traffic

A few months have passed before the penny drops.

It takes ages for keyword optimization to have an effect on your traffic generation. It is good in the long term for traffic generation, but in the short term you need other means of generating traffic to your website. While you are involved in these other methods e.g joint ventures, e mail marketing, etc. you can also dedicate a part of your time to keywords and SEO

Once you start getting traffic to your website, you will find that a lot of the traffic from the search engines comes via keywords that you never even optimized for. These are the keywords you should concentrate on optimizing for. Not the keywords that are thrown up by the latest keyword tool.

You want to put up a content rich, niche targeted site, analyze the traffic coming to it and then optimize for the keywords your visitors are using to find you.

This is crucial. It is when you are able to achieve this that you, especially the affiliate marketing newbie, will realize the full power of keyword optimization.

The steps to take are build a website with good content, add a traffic analyser to your site, a good one is provided free by google called google analytics, promote your website via other means, allow time for some traffic to come to your site, analyze the keywords that these visitors are typing in to get to your site and then optimize for these keywords.
